Batteries for Charity - Now supporting Lighthouse of Oakland County
Waterfall Jewelers “Batteries for Charity Program
The concept is quite simple. When a customer needs a battery for their watch (usually a $5.00 to $10.00 charge) asks, “How much? , they are told that there is no charge for the battery or installation but a contribution to the charity of the month would be greatly appreciated. Other services such as watchband sizing, cleaning, polishing, inspection of rings, and other small repairs are also done at no charge. Again, if the customer asks, “What is the charge? , a contribution is encouraged but of course not required.
Not only does this program raise money for charities but it also raises awareness of the needs of charitable groups within the community. Along with the donation canister, literature about the organization is prominently displayed and available for customers to review. This unique approach, enables our customers to donate and learn about the special needs or our community. Customers donate to the charity what they would have been spent anyway for their battery or repair, often times going well above the cost of the service.
Waterfall Jewelers and it’s new location in White Lake has raised money and awareness through the “Batteries for Charity program for a variety of organizations including: Open Door Outreach, Christmas in Action, SCAMP, The Relay for Life, 3 Day Walk for Breast Cancer, The Rainbow Connection, Lighthouse, The Swan for Life Foundation, Pink Trail Blazers and Project Pink thru Huron Valley Hospital
Lighthouse of Oakland County
Lighthouse of Oakland County, Inc. (LOC) has been providing services to low-income families in Oakland County since 1972. What began as an effort to provide food and clothing from the back door of a local church has grown into a family of agencies providing a full range of services designed to move people from crisis and instability to self-sufficiency and independence.
Lighthouse believes in people and their capacity to improve their lives. It empowers people to develop their potential and strengthen their communities by encouraging innovation and leadership, maximizing resources, and promoting cooperation among all Lighthouse constituencies.
Swan for Life Cancer Foundation
The Swan for Life Cancer Foundation was established to go beyond the clinical needs of the patient. Founder Farid Fata, M.D., F.A.C.P., is a medical oncologist. After many years of working with cancer patients, he realized that medicine was only one piece of the oncology puzzle. He observed that when other resources such as education, community support, a plan of action and integrative medicine options where available, patients found it easier to face the challenges that come with any cancer.
Swan for Life programs offer free coaching and support throughout North Oakland County for those affected by cancer. The Foundation helps people develop and implement a plan to navigate their journey with cancer that is inspiring, dignified, hopeful and positive.
All of the programs are open to cancer patients, friends, family and survivors.
Some of the workshops and programs include:
• Patient support groups
