D.A.R.E. envisions a world in which students everywhere are
empowered to respect others and choose to lead lives free from violence, substance use, and other dangerous behaviors.
A nine-week program, D.A.R.E. teaches the harmful effects of drugs, alcohol and tobacco products and also how to avoid violence. Students who complete the program receive a certificate and a D.A.R.E. t-shirt at a graduation ceremony.
Other activities that the D.A.R.E. Officer coordinates include an annual golf outing that raises money to fund D.A.R.E. The golf outing also helps fund 5th grade camp for students as well as the annual “Shop with a Cop” at Christmas time. Officer Brandt also conducts an annual fundraiser for M.D.A. with the White Lake Middle School. Proceeds from the fundraiser help send children suffering from M.D.A. To summer camp. Officer Brandt and Captain Ted Lilley of The White Lake Fire Department also organized a winter coat drive that benefited the Open Door Outreach Center in Waterford, Michigan. The past drive netted over 250 new/used coats, plus hats, mittens, gloves and $132.00 that were all donated to the Center that benefits the needy.
